WHY DOES THIS FORMULA WORK?
Yang= daytime, activity, warmth, up & out. Yin = night, rest, cool, down & in.
For sleep to occur, yang needs to descend and nestle comfortably under Yin (like being tucked into a cozy bed).
In Chinese medicine, there are many causes for sleep difficulties- the main issue is that the yang and spirit aren’t anchored at night. This can be caused by an anchor that is too weak to keep the spirit and yang from floating upwards; heat in the body and organs can cause qi to flare upwards instead of settling downwards (especially in the stomach- i.e. heartburn, indigestion). Good quality blood (yin) may be unavailable to make a comfy place for the spirit to rest at night so it becomes agitated or restless.
This formula creates optimal conditions for Yang to WANT to descend by opening the pathway, creating a cozy place to rest, and clearing heat in the center. We’ve added some gentle sleepy and calming herbs to help you drift off, not to knock you out and hold you under.
